• Born on August 4th, 1924 in the village of Shivpuri, District Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, India;
  • As a follower of Gandhi, participant in the Indian Freedom Struggle, jailed during the „Quit India“ movement 1942;
  • M.A. in Hindi at the University of Allahabad, D.Lit. at the University of Utrecht, Netherlands;
  • Head of the Hindi department at the Elphinstone College in Bombay; taught Hindi, Hindi Literature, Indian Culture and Philosophy at the South Asia Insitute, Heidelberg (Germany), the University of California, Berkeley (USA), the University of Bucharest (Romania) and the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University of Frankfurt/Main (Germany); held Guest Lectures at the University of Beijing (China) in 1991.
  • In the 1950’s and 60’s for nine years member of the Indian Central Board of Film Censor; also Member of the Committee to select the best films for the Indian President’s Award and the Film Music Selection Committee of All India Radio;
  • Lives mainly in Germany since 1967;
  • For many years head of the Indian Cultural Institute in Frankfurt/Main (Germany), which he founded in 1985.
